A visit to MTR Central Station becomes the first stop in an enchanting life journey through the world's different cultures in a truly inspiring 'art in mtr - arttube' exhibition that opens today (21 April 2013).

Bustling cities, traditional villages, lush landscapes and heartwarming personal images all spring to life through the eyes of talented young artists whose paintings were selected as the best entries in the first round of the 'Brushstrokes Over Hong Kong: International Children Painting Competition in Hong Kong 2012/13' (ICPC), an event organised by the Promotion of Young Artists Foundation and co-sponsored by MTR Corporation.

More than 100 colourful and creative artworks are on display in the 'arttube' near Entrance/Exit J of Central Station until 20 June 2013. They were chosen from among over 11,000 paintings submitted under the theme 'Culture of My Country' by participants aged from 4 to 18 from 52 countries and regions.

"We are proud to be involved in this competition that brings together young artists from Hong Kong and around the world. It's a great example of how MTR connects people beyond transit and also ties in well with our corporate responsibility theme to promote youth development. By viewing this exhibition, our passengers will have an opportunity to appreciate artistic talent and explore many different cultures," said Dr Raymond K F Ch'ien, Chairman of MTR Corporation. "As a sponsor of the International Children Painting Competition 2012/13, we at MTR are very excited about the next stage of the contest which will see many of these outstanding young artists coming to Hong Kong," he added.

"Through painting, young people and children are able to expand their creativity and explore their artistic potential," said Mrs Nellie Fong, Chairman of Organising Committee of the International Children Painting Competition in Hong Kong 2012/13, at the Kick-off Ceremony for the ICPC Winning Paintings Exhibition. "I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our sponsors, especially to the MTR Corporation, for providing us with this platform to showcase the great works of our talented young artists. This marks the start of a roving exhibition of these works at venues in Hong Kong as well as countries including England, Finland and Russia. We are looking forward to the continuous support of our sponsors to make this competition a lasting success in nurturing young art talents around the world," she added.

From 26 to 30 August 2013, 80 finalists from different countries and regions including Hong Kong will take part in the first Asian international onsite painting competition.

The participants will visit featured venues and landmarks in different parts of the city with MTR hosting the young artists for a day on 29 August at on-site painting venues at MTR Hong Kong Station in the central business district of Hong Kong.

'art in mtr - arttube' was launched in December 2003 and provides a platform for aspiring artists, designers and talented individuals in the creative industries to showcase their works to the community.
