Application introduction:
From 2021 to 2022, MTR Corporation has partnered with a local recycler at Ecopark and collected over 8,300 tons of spoil ballast generated from the East Rail Line ballast replacement project for upcycling. Those collected materials were transformed into 4.4 million pieces of eco-pavers, which can be utilised in new construction projects, giving valuable resources a second life.
Notably, over 1,000 pieces of eco-pavers were used as eco-brick planters at Hin Keng Station, demonstrating a circular economy of railway resources. This can divert the railway operational waste from landfill, while raising awareness of waste reduction and upcycling.
