Special Fare Days

To thank our passengers for their support, passengers travelling with Octopus on 3 and 4 November 2018 on MTR domestic journeys, Light Rail and MTR Bus can enjoy the discounts above*! This special promotion will be applied along with the 3% Rebate, Interchange Discount and Fare Saver Discount as well as the 25% discount for connecting journeys with the Monthly Pass Extra.

*The offer is not applicable to Airport Express, MTR Feeder Bus, journeys to or from Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau stations and East Rail Line First Class Premium.

Terms and Conditions:

  1. On 3 and 4 November 2018, passengers using Adult Octopus for domestic travel on the MTR, Light Rail and MTR Bus enjoy child concessionary fares automatically. Senior citizens using Elder Octopus or Personalized Octopus and eligible persons using Child Octopus, Personalized Octopus with "Student Status" and "Persons with Disabilities Status" enjoy a flat discount fare of $1 per domestic journey ("Special Fare Day Offer"). Airport Express, MTR Feeder Bus, journeys to or from Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau stations and East Rail Line First Class Premium are excluded from this promotion.
  2. A fare-paying trip is defined as a trip with a fare deduction made at MTR, Light Rail and MTR Bus fare collection systems. Such trip will be treated as an eligible trip. Regarding the charge for entry and exit at the same MTR station which consists of the current minimum adult or concessionary Octopus fare, and that portion of the fee will also be eligible for the Special Fare Day offer. Regarding the charge for entry and exit at the same MTR station in over 20 minutes but within 150 minutes, there will be a fee applied according to the "Conditions of Issue of Tickets". If a passenger travels on the Light Rail, an eligible trip must be completed within 120 minutes and the Octopus must contain both entry and exit records.
  3. The following trips will not be treated as eligible trips and do not qualify for the special fare day offer:
    • Airport Express, MTR Feeder Bus, Journeys to or from Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau stations and First Class Premium on East Rail Line;
    • If the actual fare paid after a rebate at the Light Rail Exit Processor is $0;
    • Trips made by Monthly Pass Extra users travelling via the designated stations or on the free transport modes as defined by the respective Monthly Pass Extras;
    • For any connecting journey made beyond the designated stations of Monthly Pass Extra with no fare deduction after applying other offers.
  4. The 3% Rebate, Interchange Discount, Fare Saver Discount and the 25% discount for connecting journeys with the Monthly Pass Extra (for Adult Octopus only) also apply to journeys with the Special Fare Day Offer, provided that the total discount amount shall not be higher than the promotional fare deducted. For details, please refer to the terms and conditions of the respective promotional leaflets.
  5. During the promotional period, the total fare deducted from Adult, Child and "Student Status" Octopus for some of the journeys to or from Lo Wu or Lok Ma Chau stations with interchange at Tsim Sha Tsui and East Tsim Sha Tsui stations within 30 minutes may be slightly higher than that of the non-promotional period. The fare difference may be between $0.1 and $0.5. Upon presentation of an Octopus at any MTR Customer Service Centre on the same day, passengers affected will receive a fixed amount credit of $0.5 to their Octopus.
  6. The promotional dates specified above are based on the operating day of MTR, Light Rail and MTR Bus from the start to the end of service.
  7. Enjoying the Special Fare Day Offer using Octopus is subject to MTR By-laws, the Conditions of Issue of Tickets and the Conditions of Issue of Octopus.
  8. The Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Ordinance shall not apply to the terms and conditions herein.
  9. MTR Corporation Limited reserves the right to make the final decision in the event of any dispute.
