art in station architecture
|
High quality art pieces enrich the travelling environment in the MTR network through the "art in station architecture" programme. Introduced in 1998 with the "Airport Express Artwork Programme" as the pioneer project during the opening of the Airport Express and Tung Chung Line, eye-catching works ranging from sculptures to roof hangings and mosaics were incorporated into the actual design of the station architecture. Since then, the programme has expanded to all MTR railway lines. At present, 44 works by established local and international artists from Australia, mainland China, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Taiwan, and USA serve as memorable focal points in various stations around Hong Kong. Going forward, the expanding MTR network provides a terrific opportunity to explore even more unique and imaginative ways to integrate arts and transit into more corners of the city. |
