art for life's journeys
|
As you travel through the MTR network, you will notice a rich array of art on display. They range from mosaic murals covering entire walls to life-size sculptures to colourful exhibitions and performances. Art is an important part of the MTR system. You might ask why that is. What do the MTR and art have in common? One draws on engineering and logistics while the other emerges largely out of emotion. But if we dwell on it a bit, we can see where the similarities lie. Public transport is not only about connecting communities, it is also about building them, improving peopleˇ¦s lives and contributing to a future that will flourish for generations to come. In the same way, art is a reflection of individual communities and passed down through generations. Our stations are not just places within the city. In a very real way they are the city. A vast number of people ride our trains, walk through our concourses and stand on our platforms. Our art-in-mtr initiative aims to not only enhance MTR journeys, but also, our passengersˇ¦ life journeys. One of my great pleasures as CEO of MTR is seeking out the fantastic artwork in our transit system. This art map is designed to be your guide. I hope that you will find your MTR art journey as enjoyable as I have. Jay H Walder
