Withdrawal of 10-cent Octopus Contribution for Platform Doors and Gates Retrofit Programme
To enhance your travelling experience, MTR have retrofitted platform screen doors and automatic platform gates at 38 stations. The total capital cost was $2.3 billion. While half of the total capital cost has been borne by MTR, the remaining half totaling $1.15 billion is being funded by collecting 10 cents per Octopus journey. By the end of November this year, it is expected that $1.13 billion would have been collected.
The collection of the 10 cents per Octopus journey will end earlier than planned. From 1 December 2013, you will see a 10-cent reduction in Octopus fare if you travel in the following journeys:
The corresponding First Class Premium for East Rail Line journeys with a 10-cent reduction in Octopus fares as a result of 2 and 3 above will also be reduced by 10 cents.
