In 2002, MTR established a joint venture company Shanghai Hong Kong Metro Construction Management Co. Ltd. (SHKMCM) to undertake project management of railway construction projects in Shanghai. SHKMCM was appointed as Owner's Representative of project management, on behalf of the owner, being responsible for the design and construction of Shanghai Line 9 (Shensong Line). Meanwhile, SHKMCM was also appointed as an Owner's Advisor of the Line 8 (Yangpu Line) and Line 11 (Shenjia Line).
The Line 9 Phase I project is a 31 km (Tunnels 12 km, Viaducts 17 km, At-grade 2 km) metro line comprising 13 stations (Underground 9, Elevated 4) from Songjiang New Town Station to Yishan Road Station. It is split into 31 civil / building / ABWF and 23 E&M contracts/Sub-contracts. The total project cost is about RMB12.9 billion.

Project Progress - June 2008 |
Shanghai Metro Line 9 Phase I, from Songjiang New Town Station to Guilin Road Station, has opened for public service since 29 December 2007.
For Yishan Road Station, excavation of vent shaft no.2 and entrance no.3 has been completed and track laying is in progress. Handover of major plant rooms to E&M contractors was completed and all E&M contractors have commenced their works. Main power supply equipment has been delivered and installation has commenced at early June.
For tunnel section, overhead line bracket mounting was completed from Guilin Road Station to Yishan Road Station. Other trackside installation works continues.
