Green
House Gas Inventory
As presented in Table below, MTR achieved one of the two targets relating
to Green House Gas (GHG) emissions, namely the completion of GHG Emissions
Inventory for year 2003 based on the WBCSD / WRI Protocol.
Although it was not possible to collate information on all relevant MTR
activities, the results presented here cover the main GHG-generating activities.
MTR purchases electricity from both CLP and HEC. However, data on carbon
dioxide emissions per unit of electricity purchased by customers in Hong
Kong is only publicly available from CLP. In developing the estimate of
GHG emissions, the most significant assumption made was that all electricity
consumed by MTR is purchased from CLP.
