MTR benchmarks the rewards and benefits provided to staff against other
large and reputable Hong Kong companies to attract and retain high calibre
people at all levels.

During the SARS-stricken economy, MTR launched a series of cost reduction
measures. Among these was the "One Day No Pay Leave Per Month Programme",
implemented upon consultation with staff from July to December 2003. Due
to staff commitment and hard work, MTR's patronage and other commercial
activities recovered sooner than expected. To show MTR's appreciation,
we provided all staff with a special payment to fully compensate the reduction
in salaries.
