The Corporation is committed to the sustainable development of Hong Kong.
Sustainability drives the MTR Corporationˇ¦s business culture and is underpinned by
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). To further develop its objectives of
stakeholder engagement and CSR elements, the Corporate has formulated the following:
Corporate Social Responsibility Guideline
- Through socially responsible behaviour, MTR Corporation aims to be a
competitive and profitable enterprise able to make a long term contribution to
sustainable development by generating economic growth and providing jobs and
careers whilst supporting the social and environmental needs of the society,
locally and internationally.
- This guideline is supported by a number of top-down and bottom-up initiatives
with our key stakeholders in the area of Community Investment, Employment and
Social Affairs, Sustainability and Environmental initiatives. The initiatives for
2005 and 2006 included:
(a) Community Investment
To contribute to the development of community in which we operate through supporting various community and charitable programmes e.g. helping the community, healthy living, the community railway, art in station programmes, customer service initiatives and disabled facilities within the MTR.
(b) Employment and Social Affairs
To launch programmes for life long learning, safety campaigns for staff, work 1 life balance and business ethics initiatives.
(c) Sustainability and Environmental
To carry out various environmental protection activities within the Operating Railway and in Rail way Projects, the application of environmentally friendly design, construction and management methods for Property Projects and developments, and the application of MTR Rail & Property model through master planning concepts for Areas 86 in Tseng Kwan 0 and Shenzhen Line 4.
