Disneyland Resort Line

The Disneyland Resort Line (DRL) is the first of our themed rail projects. Cited in the media as a fantasy journey to the magical world of Disneyland, the DRL illustrates the creativity, eco-efficiency and competitive advantage of our Company today.

The DRL is a dedicated two-station line connecting the MTR network to Hong Kong's Disney Resort. Built in a design partnership with Disney's Imagineering Team, the extra-ordinary in customer services shaped the design and operation of the line. Disney character-themed trains with spacious and plush interiors welcome and delight passengers. The Disneyland Resort Station combines a concourse and platform in open landscape planning to serve the spacious park entrance and open air plaza. Victoriana dominates this station's physical design, reminiscent of 19th century train stations with sweeping staircases, open girder framework, natural overhead light and period-attired station attendants to assist visitors. The Sunny Bay Station serves as an interchange to the MTR network incorporating modern eco-design features such as a fabric roof for natural ventilation and connected overhead pedestrian walkways to facilitate access to road transport and parking facilities.

The DRL also introduces innovative engineering to our rail system operations. It is the first of our lines to be fully automated with driverless trains and automatic stopping and starting of trains at stations for energy efficiencies and the introduction of outdoor automatic platform gates for passenger safety. The two stations, both at ground level, utilise natural light and open ventilation to optimal advantage for energy savings without compromise to passenger comfort. Train service frequencies are adjusted for traffic flows to achieve optimisation of the system. This line demonstrates the successful introduction of further network system upgrades and improvements.
