2001 Achievements

 

  • Ensured all new wheel sets have dampers

·        Maintained or better the level of wheel turning activity in 2000

·        Maintained or better the level of rail grinding activity achieved in 2000 (90% complete)

·        Awarded contract for new higher capacity rail grinding train

·        Removed 50% of the redundant rail joints at the open section from Choi Hung (CHH) to Lam Tin (LAT)

·        Maintained flange lubricators fitted to Lantau Airport Railway (LAR) trains

·        Maintained the rail lubricators fitted to 6 units on 3 Urban Lines (URL)

·        Completed installation of an acoustic barrier system in the fixed high platform OHL wagon

·        Continued to monitor noise from the LAR

·        Tested under floor noise monitoring system (75% complete)

·        Continued to monitor noise at 27 sensitive receivers adjacent to the open sections of MTR lines

·        Completed the rolling stock noise study for the Kwun Tong Line (KTL) and examine measures for reducing noise

·        Continued to undertake the retrofitting exercise for public address systems and conduct acoustic test at North Point Station

·        Conducted indoor air qualities surveys at 3 transport interchanges and achieve 100% compliance with the design standards

·        Continued to monitor indoor air quality at 40 URL and LAR stations

·        Conducted radon surveys for Tsuen Wan Line (TWL) and achieve 100% compliance with the WHO limits (99% complete)

·        Rolled out the passenger waste paper recycling activity from 4 trial stations to others

·        Extended waste recycling activity to cover metallic and plastic wastes

·        Recycled all waste metal

·        Awarded oil-recycling Contract and achieve 100% recycling of waste oil

·        Adopted acid detergent which contains no volatile organic compound and no COD or BOD at one URL train-wash

·        Completed modification works at Kowloon Bay Depot.

·        Maintained a quarterly wastewater-monitoring program to monitor discharges from stations, tunnels and depots

·        Installed wastewater treatment systems and undertake external pipeline diversions to achieve 100% compliance with WPCO (99% complete)

·        Conducted asbestos removal work in 14 URL stations

Conduct indoor air qualities surveys at 3 transport interchanges and achieve 100% compliance with MTR design standards.

Conduct annual monitoring indoor air quality at URL & LAR air-conditioned stations and the train saloon.

Radon

Undertake detailed radon monitoring at outstanding TWL station and report on level of compliance with WHO standards.

 

Conduct radon surveys for KTL and achieve 100% compliance with the WHO limits.

Complete the E.A. identification and assessment on all processes by using ISO14001 method, and propose saving target for 2003
