Among life's pleasurable moments, many are related to the enjoyment of art. With its "art in mtr" initiative, the MTR Corporation aims to enhance not only the MTR journeys of passengers, but also their life's journey.
The initiative has been a success since its inception in 1998, with the "Airport Express Artwork Programme" being the pioneer project. Thereafter, we have brought into our stations live performances, art exhibitions, display of artwork by established and emerging artists, students and young children. We have even made art part of our station architecture when we build new stations or renovate existing ones.
By incorporating elements of art into our network, the Corporation not only enhances the travelling environment for our passengers but also allows them easy access to art, building appreciation for both local and international artist talents. Moreover, with MTR stations being an integral part of the community, the programme also provides opportunities to promote Hong Kong's community art, encourage art appreciation among the public and give residents a feeling of home at our stations.
