MTR HONG KONG Race Walking 2008

MTR HONG KONG Race Walking 2008 – Promoting Health and the Olympic Spirit

Co-organised by the MTR Corporation and the Hong Kong Amateur Athletic Association, the annual MTR HONG KONG Race Walking event is into its fourth year. This year, both the number of participants and donations for health education have reached record highs.

More than 1,300 people signed up for 14 categories of race walking competitions and over HK$1.3 million was raised for the Hospital Authority Health InfoWorld to fund a new
initiative called the “Ideal BMI" Disease Prevention Project, which will advise the working public on the issue of obesity, and to promote weight control for associated diseases prevention.

Ten top Asian race walkers from China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines joined with over a thousand Hong Kong people on 20 April 2008 in the MTR HONG KONG Race Walking 2008 to promote better health. With the 2008 Olympic Games coming up in Beijing in August, MTR HONG KONG Race Walking 2008 proved an ideal opportunity for participants and spectators alike to warm-up for the Games.

Of the 1,300 participants, more than 200 hailed from 50 leading Hong Kong companies and organisations to race each other in the Corporate Team Challenge. Corporate teams and their cheer teams also vied to be named the best Corporate Branding Team and the Best Cheering Team.

Popular artistes and renowned athletes Ms Olivia Cheng and Mr Alex Fong added glamour to the event as they continued in their roles as MTR Race Walking Ambassadors.
