OUR SUPPLIERS

Our Suppliers

The diversity of our products and services means that MTR's supply chain is wide ranging. Leveraging our collaborative approach to our partnerships across the supply chain, we promote quality, safety, reliability and business ethics, and invite our suppliers and contractors to take part in our sustainability journey in creating lasting, positive changes in our society.

We have set out policies and guidelines relating to procurement and tendering activities applicable to all employees. To embed our sustainable procurement practices into our supply chain, we have developed a set of policies and procedures which stipulate our expectations and requirements on the ethical, social and environmental performance of our suppliers. We also invite our suppliers to formulate and implement appropriate risk mitigation measures helping us to effectively manage and monitor the identified risks in the supply chain.

The success of our supply chain sustainability objectives requires interactive and constructive dialogue with our suppliers, contractors and consultants. We encourage them to expand their knowledge, benchmark their performance and share best practices with each other, our own teams as well as their own supply chain partners. Through our periodic supplier surveys, we are able to understand the extent of their alignment with our Supplier Code of Practice and the maturity of their sustainability practices, helping us identify areas for future improvement. Through a culture of cooperative and mutual support, we enable suppliers to exercise responsible and sustainable practices beyond compliance.

Collaboration with our Contractors

Collaboration with our ContractorsWe collaborate with our contractors to promote industry best practice for safety, environmental performance and quality, helping them improve project delivery plans. One example is Shatin to Central Link Contractors Cooperative Training Scheme which aims to tackle the shortage of skilled construction workers faced by our railway extension projects through training and internship programmes for various trades in the construction industry. All civil works contractors for the Shatin to Central Link are required to recruit a specific number of trainees, providing them with training and offering 12-month employment contracts to graduate trainees who pass relevant trade tests.
