2016 Technician Apprentice - Mechanical
2023 Senior Technical Training Executive
When I received my Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education results, things didn't go as expected. However, that setback led to new opportunities. Inspired by my peers discussing the Apprenticeship Scheme, I chose to pursue a different path by enrolling in a full-time Diploma of Vocational Education at Vocational Training Council. This decision set the stage for my journey with MTR, where I began as an Apprentice working in Mechanical Discipline.
While working at MTR, I also pursued a Part-Time Higher Diploma, which allowed me to graduate successfully and advance to a technician role in the Facility Maintenance Department.
I am particularly grateful to my class teacher, who encouraged me to explore the apprenticeship route. Reflecting on my journey, I feel fortunate to have joined the Operations Training Department, a team dedicated to nurturing talent. Today, I take pride in being part of this vibrant family and am motivated to promote our company’s apprenticeship programme.
I see it as a meaningful mission to inspire the next generation passionate about railway development and to contribute to nurturing future talent.

2016 Technician Apprentice - Electronic
2020 Technician - Infrastructure Maintenance (Signaling and Telecommunication)
I felt lost after graduating from tertiary institute but soon embarked on a new journey at MTR as apprentice with my father’s encouragement. My concerns about financial pressure eased after understanding the 4-year ‘Earn and Learn’ model of the training programme. Not only would I receive a full subsidy for higher diploma courses, but I was also entitled to salary, work allowances and employee benefits.
The tutor’s endeavor to provide us with diversified learning opportunities and timely recognition for our efforts and achievements were invaluable. The '24-hour Charity Bike Race' was a memorable experience, our tutor stayed up all night with us. Four years have passed in the blink of an eye, I am officially promoted as a technician in the field of Infrastructure Maintenance – Signaling and Telecommunications. I am filled with confidence and enthusiasm for my future career journey.

2010 Technician Apprentice - Mechanical
2020 Technician Supervisor - Infrastructure Maintenance (Permanent Way)
I joined MTR as an apprentice after graduating from secondary school and was promoted all the way from apprentice to Technical Supervisor within 10 years. This training programme has indeed allowed me to adapt to work much more easily than my classmates of the same cohort, and that I am now a step ahead in the career development. Ranging from emergency recovery to track replacement, I gained exposure to different aspects of maintenance work during the 4-year apprenticeship. By following my passion, I have chosen to develop my career in Permanent Way maintenance.
As a supervisor of track maintenance, I am called to enhance railway safety and ensure passengers have a comfortable ride. My responsibilities include rectifying track defects, ensuring the track alignment, team management and handling incidents, and collaborating closely with signaling and overhead lines teams.
The most impressive and astonishing experience was participating in a maintenance work that mobilized over a hundred maintenance colleagues undoubtedly. Railway maintenance is challenging and time-intense, and I deeply appreciate the professionalism and significance of track maintenance.

2002 Technician Apprentice - Electrical
2024 Manager - Technical Training
Throughout these years, from working as an apprentice to becoming a technician, and now assuming my current role in technical training, MTR has offered me diversified training and adequate development opportunities along the way.
During my time as an apprentice, solving a real-life technical problem by successfully utilizing classroom knowledge made me realize the importance of foundation training. The seeds of teaching began to grow in my heart at that moment, leading to my transition to the Operations Training Department as a technical training tutor.
Teaching Operational Maintenance is never easy, as there is a significant gap between theory and actual practice. Therefore, I insisted to personally demonstrate in class every time to enhance the apprentices’ understanding and application of basic knowledge. Since dedicating myself to nurturing future talents as a trainer, I take great pleasure in witnessing our apprentices progressing into various management positions. We have plenty of opportunities to collaborate within and beyond our work environment and I truly cherish this authentic relationship.

2025 Acting Chief NTH Works Manager
I joined MTR as a Railway Technical Apprentice, where I was introduced to the fundamentals of railway engineering and operations. Those formative years equipped me with technical skills and built a solid foundation in safety, teamwork, and responsibility. Hands on training and guidance from experienced mentors shaped my approach to problem solving and reinforced the importance of delivering reliable service to the public.
Over time, I gained valuable experience in rail infrastructure, operations control, and new extension projects, which paved the way for my progression into leadership roles. Today, I coordinate cross business teams, drive strategic projects, and ensure that safety and service excellence remain central to our work. Looking back, the journey from apprentice to leader has been both challenging and rewarding. I am deeply grateful for the opportunities provided by the Railway Technical Trainee Scheme. I hope my story inspires future trainees to embrace every learning opportunity, stay curious, and remain committed to excellence. This scheme is not only a career start - it is a foundation for lifelong growth.

I joined the MTR Corporation as an Electrical Apprentice in 1985 and is currently a Maintenance Support Engineer in the Rolling Stock Maintenance Department. Serving the corporation for over 30 years, I have no doubt that the MTR Apprentice Training Scheme is an excellent choice for students who aspire to devote themselves to the engineering field.
MTR is dedicated in nurturing talents and offers further education allowance for colleagues to build personnel assets. I have received sponsorships from technician training to the pursuit of a university degree. With my bachelor’s degree, I successfully attained chartership from The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers in 2013. Furthermore, MTR conducts regular manpower planning and allocates resources to develop tailor-made training plans for high-potential employees whereas many colleagues and I have been benefited.
Railway maintenance emphasizes teamwork as each component is closely linked to one another. We function like a big family in our daily work supporting each other. I am more than grateful to have met good working partners from different departments within the Corporation, which boosts our work efficiency.
