Escalator Refurbishment

The escalators within the MTR network have a design lifespan of over 40 years in general. With an aim to enhance overall service and reliability, the Corporation has been arranging major overhaul for the escalators at around their 25th year of use and launched the escalators refurbishment programme since 2002. As of mid-2026, it is estimated that a total of 541 escalators have been refurbished, including 474 for Tsuen Wan Line, Kwun Tong Line, Island Line, Tung Chung Line, Tseung Kwan O Line, and 67 in East Rail Line, Tuen Ma Line.
