Project Description

New gates installation in MTR AEL stations commenced in December 2025. Same as Heavy Rail Stations, the new gates with slimmer feature are spacious in order to provide wider walkway for enhancing passengers travelling comfort. New gates are also equipped with four payment functions – Octopus, Single Journey Ticket, QR code and contactless bank card payment, bringing further convenience to passengers who can pay fares at gates directly. E-payment service at AEL stations launch on 31 May 2026, convenient for passengers and tourists to travel by AEL. All AFC New gates replacement at AEL is targeted to be completed in 2026.

Project Description

To further enhance the travel experience, starting from April 2025, adding the new "QR Code Ticket Machines" supporting various electronic payment methods added at Airport Express city stations, offering more ticketing options. Allowing passengers to purchase tickets using electronic payment methods, including electronic payment platforms, contactless credit cards, debit cards, and mobile devices with relevant payment functions. QR Code Ticket Machines will be gradually installed to AEL stations. The whole asset upgrade is targeted to be completed in 2027, by then, the Automatic Fare Collection System for AEL will be comprehensively enhanced.
