Artist's Concept:
Led by the Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation and artist Law Man-lok, “Tribute to Traditional Shops”, is the photography and illustration series of the four projects including Bamboo Kitchenware Store, Dried Seafood Store, Paper Offering Store and Rice Store.

The historical business district of Sai Ying Pun was once home to hundreds of traditional family-run shops, many of which specialised in handcrafted products for special occasions and everyday needs. Although many of these shops have now closed, those that continue to trade are a reminder of the unique character of this historic community.

For this project, a group of teenagers visited traditional bamboo kitchenware stores and spoke to the owners about their work and memories. Using these reflections, they worked with the artist to create lively pieces of art incorporating text and illustrations.
