“Art in MTR” Exhibition Presents a Unique World of Childlike Wonder Through Pottery Creations by Caritas Lok Yi School Students

Exhibition dates: 2.6.2025 - 2.9.2025
Venue: Sheung Wan Station & Sai Wan Ho Station
Co-organised with: Caritas Lok Yi School

The latest "Art in MTR" exhibition at MTR Sheung Wan Station and Sai Wan Ho Station showcases the "Joyful Clay" - exquisite handmade pottery artwork crafted by the students of Caritas Lok Yi School, starting from 2 June 2025 to 2 September 2025. Through the lens of ceramic artwork, the exhibition aims to inspire the public to explore the unique perspectives and emotions of students, embodying the vision of fostering an inclusive community.

Caritas Lok Yi School provides special education, therapy, nursing, and residential services for students aged 6 to 18 with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities. The school is committed to unlocking students' potential and empowering them to lead fulfilling lives. At this exhibition, the school's students have crafted a collection of over 30 pottery pieces using hand-moulding and hand-throwing techniques to create presentations of food, animals, natural landscapes, utensils, as well as planets and the abstract concepts of parallel universes. Unlike the sharp lines of traditional pottery, these students' works retain their personal imprints - nail marks, palm prints, and even unintentionally collapsed edges, all of which become unique aesthetic symbols. After firing and glazing, the ceramic pieces were transformed into vibrant colours and textures, symbolising the possibilities to unleash boundless creativity and live an abundant life as individuals.

"For years, Caritas Lok Yi School has been dedicated to promoting community inclusion and we believe everyone can thrive in an environment of love. This exhibition at MTR stations aims to deepen the public's understanding of students with special educational needs while exploring students' diverse potential and creativity through art. Through the creation of pottery artworks, we hope to inspire our students to think out of the box, learn and develop emotional management and communication skills, and express their innate curiosity towards the world," said Ms Mok Oi Ling, Principal of Caritas Lok Yi School.

"Art is a universal language transcending age, race and other boundaries. It is a platform for all to express their own true colours and values. The "Art in MTR" exhibition carries profound significance for community inclusion. We are delighted to provide a platform for communities with special needs to showcase their artistic talents in MTR stations. We hope passengers can feel their simple yet heartfelt child like wonder and dreams during their daily journeys," said Ms Linda Choy, Corporate Affairs and Branding Director of MTR Corporation.
