Travel in ShenZhen
Futian Mangrove Ecological Park integrates popular science education, coastal culture and natural ecology with recreation. It is connected to the adjacent national-level Futian Mangrove Nature Reserve, just across the river from Hong Kong Mai Po Nature Reserve. Located in downtown Futian District, the park features riverside scenery and exquisite gardens, where you can watch fish and birds, and have some quality time with your families. It is indeed an oasis of peace amidst the urban hustle!
The park is a national bird sanctuary and located at the south of Shenzhen Bay, which is known as the “Migratory Bird Paradise”. Each year the park receives nearly 100,000 migrating birds from the eastern hemisphere for winter. More than 200 species of birds passing through here and 23 of them are rare and endangered species, including the black-faced spoonbill. Large flocks of birds flying in formation are a spectacular but common scene in the park. It is not difficult to capture them with your camera!
There are special bird-watching pavilions in the shape of an umbrella in the park, where you can watch the birds, take a rest or admire the scenery of Shenzhen Bay wetland. If you are lucky, you may also see otters, and even fireflies at night!
In the middle of the Red Rain Lake in the park, there is a man-made “ecological floating island” with various aquatic plants. It serves as a habitat and breeding place for aquatic birds. There are also many photo hotspots in the park, such as the “Colourful Corridor” painted with flying waterfowls, and the “Carving Red”, a unique mangrove pergola inspired by the intricate forest.
