MTR Launches “Year of the Rabbit” Ticket Set to Spread Lunar New Year Festivities
Auspicious Rabbits ring in New Series of MTR Chinese Zodiac Tickets

HK$100 for one set

Happy Year of the Rabbit!

MTR will launch a new set of limited edition Chinese zodiac tickets on 1 January 20231. The set of two tickets features the calligraphic work of retired MTR architect Abe Au Kit Tong and an illustration by local artist Bonnie Pang. On 22 January 2023, i.e., the first day of the Year of the Rabbit, the ticket set can be used for unlimited rides on the MTR (domestic journeys)2, Light Rail, MTR buses and MTR feeder buses.

MTR passengers will find Abe Au’s brushstrokes reassuringly familiar. Indeed, the calligraphy that can be found in many MTR stations depicting the station names is the works of Au. His calligraphic works are not only admired by many, but also forms an integral part of MTR’s station art collection. Passengers will be able to delve further into Mr Au’s art through the new ticket set, which features his freestyle semi-cursive writing of the Chinese character “rabbit”.

The other ticket design is also based on the Chinese character “rabbit”, but it takes on a different style under the hand of illustrator Bonnie Pang, who turns the word into an adorable rabbit to wish passengers a vibrant Lunar New Year.

Chinese calligraphy transforms writing into a profound, versatile form of art, while modern illustrations can enhance the enjoyment of words. As much as they further connect MTR with local art, the vigorous brushstrokes of Abe Au and the creative drawing of Bonnie Pang ring in a new series of MTR Chinese zodiac tickets and keep the ticket art tradition alive.

The “Year of the Rabbit” Ticket Set, which includes two tickets of different designs and a ticket holder, is priced at HK$100. Each ticket set also comes with eight beautiful red packets that blends the two ticket designs to create an interesting juxtaposition of traditional Chinese art, modern illustration, and MTR elements.

The ticket set will be available from 1 to 22 January 2023 at various MTR and Light Rail Customer Service Centres3 (unpaid area) and Tourist Services – Admiralty, and on MTR Mobile and MTR e-Store. During the promotion period4, MTR Mobile Registered Users can enjoy an exclusive price of HK$90 (Original Price: HK$100) and earn MTR Points when they order the product on the MTR e-Store upon login, where they can also convert MTR Points to cash5 for payment.
