"CAT/DOG CARRYING TRIAL SCHEME" ON LIGHT RAIL DURING WEEKENDS AND PUBLIC HOLIDAYS
To facilitate cat/dog travel and contribute to promoting an inclusive community, starting from 1 May 2025, MTR will launch a 2-month trial scheme to allow each passenger to bring one pet cat or dog into the Light Rail* after purchasing a “Cat/Dog Carrying Pass” and travel in accordance with the terms and conditions for the trial scheme.
What is a "Cat/Dog Carrying Pass"?
- Only electronic "Cat/Dog Carrying Pass" is available, no physical version will be provided. It is valid for the calendar month shown on each pass and does not renew automatically.
- "Cat/Dog Carrying Pass" holders can bring one cat/dog for unlimited rides on Saturdays, Sundays, or public holidays within the calendar month in accordance with the terms and conditions.
- Each passenger can only purchase one "Cat/Dog Carrying Pass" for the current calendar month and one for the next calendar month.
How to Purchase:
- Register as an MTR Mobile member
- Log in and purchase the “Cat/Dog Carrying Pass” for the current or next calendar month through MTR e-Store in the MTR Mobile or click here.
- Upon completion of payment, passengers will receive a confirmation email
- The “Cat/Dog Carrying Pass” will be sent to the "My collections" section of MTR Mobile within 30 minutes

"Cat/Dog Carrying Pass" will be available for sale through MTR e-Store starting from 11 April 2025 (Price: HK$99). The pass is non-transferable and cannot be altered, exchanged, or refunded.
Travelling on Light Rail with a Pet Cat or Dog
To enter Light Rail premises:
- Passengers must ensure they hold a valid “Cat/Dog Carrying Pass” for the current calendar month.
- Each passenger with a valid “Cat/Dog Carrying Pass” is only allowed to bring one pet cat or dog into the Light Rail.
- Passengers must place their cat/dog completely inside a pet-specific carrier and ensure it is fully closed or covered, with no body parts of the cat/dog exposed.
- For the safety of pets and other passengers, the pet bag should not be opened at any time until you exit the Light Rail premises.

Other Points to Note:
- Passengers should assess the physical and mental condition of their pet cat or dog before and during travel.
- Passengers must pay the regular fare for the ride. The “Cat/Dog Carrying Pass” is not considered as a valid fare ticket and is not included in the Public Transport Fare Subsidy Scheme.
- Passengers are not allowed to use any pet stroller or wheeled carrier (like a shopping cart) to transport animal into the Light Rail premises.
- Passengers should bring their own cleaning supplies to manage any waste from their pet cat or dog and maintain cleanliness and hygiene on the Light Rail premises.
- MTR staff have the right to request passengers to provide proof of the valid “Cat/Dog Carrying Pass”, check the specifications of their pet bag, or refuse entry to those who do not comply.
- If passengers fail to comply with the Terms and Conditions, they may be prosecuted and fined.
