An applicant for a Personalised Octopus must be a student under the following definitions:
"Student" refers to any person between the ages of 12 and 25 who is currently enrolled in a full-time day course offered by an acceptable institution in Hong Kong. Students who have not yet reached 26 may apply. An applicant's age is determined by the date the application is submitted.
"Full-time day course" refers to a day-time course, which normally requires the participant to attend an acceptable local institution for not fewer than 20 hours of academic instruction each week for 30 weeks or more in an academic year.
"Acceptable institution" refers to:

Application fee
The application fee of HK$90 includes a deposit of HK$50 at Octopus Cards Limited; an administration fee of HK$20 charged by MTR Corporation Limited for the MTR Student Travel Scheme; and a non-refundable service charge of HK$20 payable to Octopus Cards Limited.
The said fees may be subject to change according to Octopus Cards Limited’s adjustment.
FIRST TIME APPLICANTS# will receive a rebate from the MTR Corporation Limited in the form of HK$20 usable value encoded on the Personalised Octopus.
A HK$10 charge on your Personalised Octopus, or such amount at its absolute discretion from the Octopus deposit to cover the Octopus cost.

Submission of application
You can download an application form from this web page or obtain the form [MTR Student Travel Scheme Application Form (Academic year 2025 / 2026)] at any MTR Customer Service Centre^ or the Concessionary Travel Office in Admiralty station from 1 September 2025.
You should submit the completed application form along with a photo and the application fee of HK$90 to any MTR Customer Service Center within 14 days after obtaining the school chop. A receipt will be issued when submit the application form.
New Octopus Collection
Upon accepted application, you will receive a letter with the new Personalised Octopus delivered by Octopus Cards Limited within 4 to 6 weeks from the Date of Application.
Please follow the instructions to activate the new Octopus and "Student Status" through Octopus App. You can also carry the letter, your identity documents and new Octopus to go to any MTR Customer Service Centre@ for Octopus activation.
If you do not receive the letter from Octopus Cards Limited after 6 weeks of your application and payment, please contact Octopus Customer Service Hotline on +852 2266 2222.

You can also put the application form into the MTR Student Travel Scheme collection box next to the MTR Customer Service Centre^ between 1 September and 14 October 2025.
You can activate the "Student Status" on the Personalised Octopus or Personalised Mobile Octopus within 2 to 4 weeks upon successful application using the following method:

If you transfer your physical Personalised Octopus with photo to Mobile Octopus, your photo has been recorded into the Personalised Mobile Octopus. After activation of "Student Status", you can check the validity of the "Student Status" encoded on your Personalised Octopus or Personalised Mobile Octopus at any MTR Customer Service Centre* or through any Octopus Enquiry Processor in MTR stations.
