Public Transport Fare Subsidy Scheme

Public Transport Fare Subsidy Scheme

Non-means-tested Public Transport Fare Subsidy Scheme Introduced by the Government

On 1 January 2019, the Government introduced the Public Transport Fare Subsidy Scheme to relieve the fare burden of commuters who travel on local public transport services for daily commuting and whose public transport expenses are relatively high.

At present, the Government would provide commuters with a subsidy amounting to one-third of their actual monthly public transport expenses in excess of a monthly threshold, and subject to a maximum of $400 per month for each Octopus and each AlipayHK account*. Public transport expenses are recorded separately under the AlipayHK account* and Octopus and cannot be combined for the calculation of subsidies. From 1 June 2025 onwards, the monthly threshold under the Scheme has been raised from $400 to $500, while the subsidy rate and the monthly subsidy cap remain unchanged.

For details about the Scheme, please click here or enquire through the following channels:
⦁ Hotline for AlipayHK users under the Scheme: 3002 0905
⦁ Hotline for Octopus users under the Scheme: 2969 5500

* Members of the public paying public transport fares with AlipayHK EasyGo, or using the QR Code on the MTR Mobile QR Code Ticket with AlipayHK as payment source on the MTR train services (excluding Airport Express), the relevant fares will be eligible for the calculation of public transport fare subsidy.
